Masaryk on Tolstoy and Gorky
pp. 149-160
Abstrakt
Masaryk considered himself an expert on Russia and Russian literature. Several generations of Czechs as well as of other nationalities, including Russians, shared this conviction of his. It is however well known that he did not acquire his knowledge about Russia from a long stay in that country, or among Russians, as his trips there were but brief and he only maintained contacts with a limited circle of Russian intellectuals of mostly liberal tendencies.
