Randall Collins verknüpft in seiner Soziologie eine Konflikttheorie sozialer Prozesse, eine Ritualtheorie (die aus zwei Quellen stammt, von Emile Durkheim und von Erving Goffman) sowie eine Mikroorientierung, die neben Goffman auf die weitere Tradition des symbolischen Interaktionismus zurückgeht.
