Körper oder Leib in situ?

Birgit Althans

pp. 323-341

The article starts with different theoretical concepts of immersion and discusses the different perspectives of art, literature and media studies, media anthropology (McLuhan) and media history (Pias) along the leading question: Is immersion a bodily or only mental experience. Concrete practices and experiences of immersion are discussed along the digital gaming practice of FIFA 2016/2017, played by individuals or collectives on play station, supported by youtube-tutorials or professionalized as e-sport-practice. These perspectives were studied by an auto-ethnographical research accompanied by a participant observation referring to theoretical concepts like sound studies and material feminism (Barad). The article ends discussing difference and similarities of methodological approaches phenomenological and material feminism dealing with subjects like immersion.
