A multidimensional account

Dan Zahavi

pp. 88-94

Throughout the preceding chapters, the notion of an experiential self has been contrasted with the notion of a more socially constructed self. This chapter concludes Part I by summarizing the arguments for the former and by defending a multidimensional model of self, one that sees the two notions of self as complementary notions rather than as excluding alternatives. It is also suggested, however, that it might be necessary to consider an as yet unexplored interpersonal dimension of self, one that might serve to bridge and connect the other two notions.
