Developing educational applications using adaptive e-learning model

pp. 13-18

In the last few years the problem of developing sequencing course material has become an important research issue. Our work aims at providing an environment of authoring and presenting pedagogical hypermedia contents adapted to the end-user. This environment should increase the productivity of the teacher by supporting the re-use of contents already developed in other contexts. This goal is achieved by means of a model of pedagogical components. In this paper, we propose a three-layer model consisting of a domain model which represents the concepts covered by the courses, a learner model which keeps the profile of learners, and a pedagogical activity model which describes components' content related to the domain model. A hypermedia subsystem is responsible for modeling the navigational aspect of the system. The aim of our work is to provide an environment of authoring and delivering adapted teaching contents to the end-user by combining components. These components, available on the Web, could be accessible and exchanged among teachers in a community. In order to validate and evaluate our model, we developed and implemented a training help application for an educational hypermedia, HyperMadrassa System. This system is aimed at the training of primary school learners' pupils in basic Arabic language concepts.
